“G8 Action Network Convergence center / Camp Work Group”

We’ve determined the two camp sites!
Currently, we’re in the final stages of discussion with the administration.

The two sites are:

1) Toyoura-cho, Hokkaido – Toyoura Forest Park
2) Sobetsu-cho, Hokkaido – Orofure Rest House (Orofure Hotto Piaza)

Both camp venues are next to Toyako-cho, the town hosting the summit.

The camp will be held for four days during the summit:

July 6 (evening) ~ July 9

Please bring your own sleeping bag and tent.
We hope to see you all!

The closest station is JR Rebun Station. The camp site is 5 minutes from the station by car.

From the Itachi Interchange on the Douou Expressway take National route (koku-do) 37 or 453, or State route (do-do) 2.
Distance: 19.5km Time: ~22 minutes

[ By Train ]
The closest station is Datemonbetsu Station on the JR Muroran line. From the station it is about a 30 minute taxi ride (25km) to the camp site.

〜「もうひとつの世界」としてのキャンプについて考える〜

T.A.Z.=一時的自律ゾーンとしてのキャンプ、＝コモンズとしてのキャンプを構想しよう、そうしよう。

この夏、北海道・洞爺湖でG8サミットが開催されます。これに対してわたしたちは、G8サミットとは全く別の、自由で自立的な空間、世界中の人々がそこに集まり、群れ、ともに考え、さまざまな活動を通して交流するための空間を実現するべく、現地北海道での大きなキャンプを計画しています。

G8の問題点とは何なのか、「もうひとつの世界」としてのキャンプとはどのようなものとなりうるのか。昨年のG8開催国ドイツ・ロストックでの映像を見ながら、みんなで考えてみたいと思っています。興味のある方は是非遊びに来てください

7月の洞爺湖サミットまで、あと2ヶ月をきりました。わたしたち「G8サミットを問う連絡会インフォセンター／キャンプ ワーキンググループ」は、期間中に北海道を訪れる国内外のNGO、市民グループの人びとに、宿泊と交流の機会を作るためのとりくみをしています。今回の説明会では、決定した場所と日程を公開させていただくと
同時に、キャンプで予定されている様々な企画を紹介し、「どんなところに泊まるの
か」「何をするのか」について、みなさまとイメージを共有することができたらと思っ

― 北海道に新しい空間 “オルタナティブ・ヴィレッジ” が出現します ―

G8サミットを問う連絡会 インフォセンター／キャンプ ワーキンググループ

◆ 何をするの？
　今年7月、北海道洞爺湖ではG8サミットが開催されます。世界各国からは、数千の人びとが北海道につどい、それぞれのNGOグループや人びとが様々な行動にとりくむことになるでしょう。わたしたちインフォセンター／キャンプ・ワーキンググループは、そうした人びとが集まり、交流するための新しい村、オルタナティブ・ヴィレッジを作りあげることをめざします。

◆ インフォセンター
　インフォセンターは、G8に関する様々なイベントについての情報を提供する窓口、資料や書類などを作成するプリント工房、創作作業の工房、待ち合わせ休憩所、ミーティングルーム、インターネット環境などを備えた国際交流のための施設です。このセンターは土地に不慣れな人びとを受け入れ、見知らぬもの同士が出会い、共同作業をすすめると同時に、地元の人たちと交流するための大切な窓口にもなります。

◆ キャンプ
　キャンプ地では、国内外からやってきたNGO、市民グループの人びとが、テントで宿泊します。ここでは、各国の料理紹介、コンサート、映画上映会、世界サッカー大会、環境問題や自然保護のワークショップなどが企画されます。　これは、「もう一つの村」＝“オルタナティブ・ヴィレッジ”と呼ばれるものです。“オルタナティブ・ ヴィレッジ”は、参加者一人一人が自らの手で空間を作りあげていく試みになります。
　これまでG8が開催されて来たフランスのエヴィアン、イギリスのグレンイーグルス、ドイツのロストックなどで、このような場が実際に生まれ、多くの人たちが参加してきました。また、このキャンプやイベントを通じて、各国からやってきた人たちと地元住民との間のふれあいや交流もうまれます。

◆ 目的とするのは？
　このインフォセンターとキャンプの目的は、情報や宿泊のインフラを提供することにとどまらず、たがいに助けあい、協力し、わかちあう空間をつくりあげることにあります。この空間は、さまざまな人々の着想や表現をうみだし共に何かをつくりだしていくための、大きな土台になります。わたしたちはそうした自由で開放的な空間を作りあげることを大きな目的としています。

––towards the emergence of a new “Alternative Village” space in Hokkaido––

“G8 Action Network” Convergence-center / Camp Work Group

• Our Plan
　The G8 will be held in July of this year (2008) at lake Toya (Toya-ko) in Hokkaido. We expect thousands of people from all over the world will gather in Hokkaido, as individuals and various NGO groups, to take part in a medley of actions. We (Convergence-center/Camp Work Group) look forward to the completion of an Alternative Village, both a hive for the swarm and a place for dialogue.

• Convergence-center
The convergence-center will act as your window to a host of knowledge & information concerning the G8; as a studio for printing data & documents; as a studio for creative work & operations; as a meeting place, and as a resting place; as a point of internet access; and as a forum for international exchange. The center will function as an important node, gathering those of us unaccustomed with the land together in order to stimulate collaborative operations, and, at the same time, we will work to ensure that local voices are active in education and discussion.

• Camp
The Camp is provided as an area for those of us coming with (I)NGOs and citizens’ groups to pitch our tents.
We are working with you to plan an international kitchen, concerts, film screenings, a world football tournament, workshops on environmental issues and nature conservation, as well as other events to be held in and around the camp grounds. This is ‘another possibility’, “Alternative Village”. “Alternative Village” will be an experimental environment in which every participant builds the space for participation with their own hands. This is the type of space that has been actualized through the participation of many people against the G8 at Évian-les-Bains in France, again at Gleneagles in Scotland, and again at Heiligendamm in Germany. Moreover, the camp and its surrounding activities provide a chance for those from around the world to interchange and build networks with the local residents.

• Our Goals
　The aims of the Convergence-center and Camp are not simply to provide an infrastructure for information-exchange and lodging; more broadly, we hope to help architect a shared space in which we can mutually help out and cooperate. This is a space for the creation of ideas & expressions by all its participants; a solid foundation onto which we may build something anew. The establishment of this free, open space takes a large place among our goals.

• We Need Your Participation & Collaboration!
Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help in creating and running the Convergence Center and to participate in the Camp Work Group. Everyone with interest is sincerely invited to contact us at the e-mail address below.
